Interpreting Level B Assessment Data-Practical Applications

Presented By

Dr. Dave Carter

Series Sessions

Date Time
Thursday, November 02, 2017 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Location

In Person École Dr. Bernard Brosseau School 4301 - 38th Street, Bonnyville, AB

This session is designed for those who generate "Level B" assessment data (often standardized tests of reading, arithmetic, spelling, receptive vocabulary, etc.) or those who receive that data from others.  Once you have those "standard scores" how do you make senses of them?  What is the significance of differences between scores?  How do I use test score patterns to decide how to help a child learn better?

The first portion of the session will focus on two key data interpretation procedures that are practical and easy to use.  Then we will go on to interpret a set of data that the instructor will bring.  Then (for half the day) we will look at child assessment data that participants may bring to the session.  We will have time to look at 3 - 4 sets of information about children (bring along recent test results that you have generated or someone has provided to you).  We will apply the procedures used in the first part of the day to interpreting the data and making some "educated guesses" about what might be done to help the child.

Any student data brought must be confidential (no name of the child, correct birthday, address, school or teacher name).

The focus of the day is on (a) using two practical interpretation methods and (b) practicing the use of these methods.

It is assumed that participants will have completed Dr. Carter's 3-day session (or something similar).

Very special emphasis will be placed on the interpretation of WIAT test scores and participants are especially urged to bring examples of recent WIAT results to the session.

This learning opportunity is being offered through a grant from Alberta Education.
