This professional learning series, offers participants training in some of the finer points in building assessments, combined with time to build new assessments. Participants will receive background guidance into best practices in designing and constructing assessments, interspersed with time to work on assessments they are building/wish to build. Participants are encouraged to share their work progress with their peers to benefit from constructive feedback to help refine their product. The session will include guidance in the basics such as:

 Assessing for the big ideas
 Creating clear and concise instructions that promote student engagement
 Incorporating best practice principles in making performance assessments
 Constructing high-quality scoring methods, such as rubrics and rating scales
 Providing effective exemplars of student work
 Making high quality constructed response items

To maximize this professional learning support, participants should have a plan in place for what they intend to build, prior to arriving!

This learning opportunity is being offered through a grant from Alberta Education.
