Spelling continues to be an illusive area within ELA for many teachers. Without our own clear understanding, we continue to use programs with hopes that our students will be able to transfer their spelling knowledge into their everyday writing. The good news is that with greater personal knowledge about spelling and how our writing system is structured, we can bring deeper conceptual understanding related to spelling to our students. Teachers of all grades are invited to join us in this ongoing community, as we support one another and learn together about orthography with the mindset of inquiry as an approach to this work. Each time we get together will be an opportunity to explore some new ideas that you can try out and to report back to the group how it went with your class. We believe the easiest way to tackle big ideas is in small bites; this session series aims to do exactly that.
This learning opportunity is being offered through a grant from Alberta Education.
