This is an introductory, practical learning session to support Grade 2 and 3 teachers in the implementation of the new ELA curriculum, which emphasizes explicit instruction in decoding (sounding out words). The focus will be on how to develop two key curricular components: phonological awareness and phonics skills in order to build solid foundational literacy. This session provides a Structured Literacy approach to reading instruction that is direct, sequential, systematic, and multi-sensory - a proven method that is effective for all students and essential for those who have fallen behind.
